俄罗斯labyrinths的用途

阅读：

1. 用来捕鱼trap fish

2. 天文用途astronomical purpose

3. burial and ritual place，作用和巨石阵Stonehenge类似

 

听力：反驳

1. 在inland甚至是在离海岸线几百公里的地方也有labyrinth

2. 每个labyrinth都有entrance，如果是天文用途，那所有entrance都应该towards the same direction ，但investigation的结果显示并不是

3. 这类burial place周围一定有human remains，但是labyrinth周围没有发现

第一篇

柴火价格上升是导致英国工业化的一个主要原因，人们改煤炭来取代柴火后，就可以溜出来更多的土地用于耕种，从而为当地人提供更充足的食物，养活更多的人口。

 

但是煤的开采会产生一个问题，那就是会透水，所以他们又发明了蒸汽机来排水。但是一开始蒸汽机还没有很高级，效率不高，经过几十年的改进后排水效率才得以提升。

 

第二篇

几十年前就有对于鸟群的研究。研究者们记录了这些鸟产卵和筑巢的时间，还发现这些鸟在进行孵化的时候，往往会出现很多的虫子。后来他们还发现鸟类的产卵其实与食物的分配有直接的关系。

 

第三篇

获取史前人类信息的一个重要来源就是研究他们的饮食，所以考古学家们会去寻找并分类各种史前留下的食物残骸，从而去推断以前人们的饮食偏好。先讲植物残骸例如种子，后面讲动物残骸例如动物的骨头和牙齿都能帮助考古学家们去研究当时人们的饮食。

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? To truly know about a county, it is necessary to learn a major language of this country.

 

TASK2 

把B dorm给新生住，reading说：这样新生更加适应university life，以及原来的老生搬到新dorm，听力同意：新生可以相互帮助，他们都是一样从远方来到学校的，老生住的new dorm 更好，space大，可以放更多的东西。

 

TASK3 

quorum sensing ：没有central leader，大家给different solution，听力：ants 找nest，a few ants去找suitable nest，他们要找large的，如果他们觉得good spot，就叫其他ants 去看，这样，如果more and more ants 都去看了，都觉得这地不错，那么他们就找到了最大的地当nest【版本2：quorum sensing，例子讲的是蚂蚁build nest，一个蚂蚁让另一个蚂蚁来看，然后一直这样确定一个石头的缝可以用来造窝】。 

 

TASK4 

role conflict，ppl怎么处理这种情况1. give up one role, e.g.,Stu give up 一个角色（没听清），so they can focus on their study2. set priority，high priority的先完成，e.g.，parents 带kids 看doctor？（不确定），他们要不做其他不太重要的事

哲学：提及亚里士多德的哲学理论，结合水可以有不同的形态：固态、液态、气态进行解释讲解。

托福写作：

【综合写作】

综合是讲了一个ocean collective的设备，可以帮助解决plastic in the ocean，然后文章说它的三个优点

1、cost（这个设备用洋流，save energy 花钱比较少）

2、minimal impact on marine life 

3、recycle（回收的两种塑料可以重复利用）

 

听力反驳

1、cost会很高，因为设备在水里承受forces很容易坏，需要经常修。plastic非常多，需要很多这种设备，最后加起来很贵

2、虽然swimming animals可以绕过去，但是plankton靠水流运动反而会被带到这个设备里，plankton受到影响后feed on plankton的动物也会受影响

3、两种塑料在ocean里会break down然后再聚成更大的，很难回收，并且一些organisms会附在上面不好处理

9月25日托福阅读

第一篇：讲欧洲的羊毛生产。

在北欧的一些地区出现了由海上路线来连接的manufacturing communities. Flanders and England 都是有名的布料生产地点，一开始是小规模的，后来规模壮大，接着讲了规模扩大需要skills更复杂。最后讲到从事纺织行业的工人有unskilled， semiskilled，还有masters。

 

第二篇：讲Florence的崛起。

主要描述了崛起的原因，分别是它成为了纺织中心，banking 的发展，还有教育系统和政府的发展。

 

第三篇：地球大气层的起源。

先描述了行星形成的过程，然后是地球内部的形成，分别是地壳，地幔和地核，然后最后一段描述了大气层时如何形成的，大气层过气体的其中一个来源是火山喷发，还有一些气体比如水蒸气是来自于彗星等天体的撞击。

Task1

Imagine that you need to find housing next semester and have found two possible apartments. The first apartment is within walking distance to campus, but the rent is a little expensive. The second apartment is farther away from campus. but the rent is more affordable. Which apartment do you think is better? Explain why. 

 

task2  Cultural Arts Requirement 

Reading: 学校要求学生每学期attend two cultural arts events and write short response papers，目的是interest students in attending more of the events by requiring attendance.

listening: 男生反对这个requirement，R1-it will discourage our attendance at other events by forcing us to go to somewhere less likely to go to others and Students will be less likely to go to additional events of their own Free will. R2-students don't have time for extra writing assignments especially assignments aren't even for a class. 

 

task3 Dormancy

Reading: dormancy refers to a state of inactivity when the animal takes measures to avoid exposure to the elements, and its bodily processes slow down

Listening: e.g. lungfish lives in shallow lakes and before the lake dries up, it digs itself down into a hole in the mud at the bottom of the lake and curls itself up and covers itself with slime and mud. It forms a sort of protective coat of slime and mud. It protects the fish from heat and helps keep it moist. its breathing and heartbeat slow way down so it does not need to eat. 

 

Task 4: 2 characteristics of effective teachersZ

1. maintain a supportive attitude toward students: e.g. Math teacher encouraged the professor to keep working hard and the professor gained confidence in geometry; 

 

2. provide regular/almost immediate feedbacks to students: e.g. math teacher graded and returned homework by the end of the day to help reinforce each new lesson taught in class and students could understand and remember the correct way to do geometry problems.

conversation：

1. 学生报了暑假班，暑假班没开成，找老师问如何退费，以及问老师所在部门发出的工作岗位招聘相关信息

2. 停车的问题 学生停在不可以停的地方 管理员说你要是停车不方便可以做shuttle bus是免费的 学生说那我交了停车费呀 管理员说没关系可以退 但是学生因为还有别的停车需求就没有采纳管理员的意见

 

lecuture

1.地质学讲座， land的形成，有uplift和erosion两种，先讲了一个理论，然后提出板块理论，讲了好多机理,最后有举了喜马拉雅山的例子

2. 教育模式，某个学校为例子：自由/不用交作业/老师和同学一起做食物之类的，然后最终这个学校还是关门了
